Seeing the Impact of Literacy and Numeracy Efforts

As we spiral through our inquiry process at Cambie Secondary, we’re starting to see the fruits of our literacy and numeracy focus. Since Stephanie Paukov stepped into her role as Literacy and Numeracy teacher, we’ve launched four “Launch and Learn” sessions (October, November, January, and February, with more planned for April and May) to equip staff with practical strategies. Teachers have embraced tools like command terms posters and the Pomodoro technique, with some reporting immediate uptake—students even noticed these methods popping up across classes. A pre-initiative survey of teachers in October highlighted areas of need, leading to the creation of our Grade 8 team. While it’s too early for comprehensive data, students are showing excitement for these new approaches, and staff feedback is positive about building a shared language and toolkit. We’re tracking progress closely, especially with Grade 8s, and look forward to sharing more measurable outcomes soon.
