Student Notices - May 26, 2023

We would like to begin by acknowledging and thanking the First Peoples of the Hən̓q̓əmin̓əm̓ language groups on whose traditional and unceded territories we teach, learn and live.

Hey Cambie Coyotes!  In honour of next week’s National AccessAbility Week, here is your fact of the day.  Did you know that a disability is not always obvious.  Disabilities can impact you sight, hearing, mobility, flexibility, dexterity, be pain related, learning challenges, developmental, memory or mental health.  Many disabilities are hidden and not visible to everyone.  In fact, 1 in 10 Canadians are estimated to have a learning disability.  Please make sure to wear red on Wednesday, May 31st and think of how you can make Canada, the community and Cambie more inclusive.

Hey Cambie! May is Asian History Month. Did you know that Sumerians developed the world's earliest writing system?

Next week is Bike to School Week! It is an annual celebration where we encourage students of all ages to bike, roll, or walk to school. Active travel to and from school is associated with positive environmental, social, and safety benefits for students of all ages. If you bike, roll, or scooter to school, you will get a ballot to enter into a contest for fabulous prizes including a $50 gift card to Caps Cycles, two-one month fitness passes and two - sport visit cards to the Cambie Community Centre. In addition, we are pleased to confirm that we have secured a "Bike Check up" for June 1st for 20 bikes. So, dust out your wheels and get rolling!

Just a reminder to all aspiring Cambie cheerleaders that the next skill clinic is Tuesday May 30th! Make sure to keep practicing your skills. See you all there!!

Attention Coyotes! If you plated any sports this year, it’s you time to celebrate at the athletic banquet. Tickets are available at lunch this entire week to all students in the rotunda. If you were an athlete, admission is free! Just don’t forget to sign up. Thank you!

For students who are interested in obtaining a FOODSAFE level 1 certificate, there is a mandatory meeting on June 1st, Thursday, at lunch in room D148. Students must bring a $45 cheque on the day to sign up.  This is your only chance to sign up.  FOODSAFE sessions will be held on June 26th & 27th from 9am-1pm.  Please see Ms. Chen if you have any questions.

Hey grads! Don’t forget to buy tickets for dinner dance AND dry grad - which are two very special and exciting events of our whole senior year! Just a reminder that the price for the tickets to dry grad have been LOWERED to $50 and you can pay for them through SchoolCashOnline, so hurry because you don't want to miss out!!

Hi Cambie, the valedictory ceremony at UBC Chan centre is on Friday, June 9th. Many grade12 students have not yet purchased the tickets to attend the ceremony. The purchase includes a gown, cap, plus 2 entrance tickets. The deadline to purchase tickets is Friday, June 2nd. Please use your schoolcashonline or see Ms. Mundie.

Hey grade 11s! Are you interested in creating a memorable senior year for you and your friends? If so, you should apply for the 2023-2024 Grad Council! A few of our current members will be going around to your classrooms TODAY during A block to tell you more about it. You can also find the application and additional info on our Instagram @cambiegrad2023.

Attention seniors! I’m sure you’ve all noticed the beautiful car that’s parked in the middle of the rotunda! Applewood Nissan has graciously donated a car that will be going to ONE OF US. All you have to do is submit an application explaining how the car would benefit you. Applications are due June 16th, so get them in if you want that car!
