Student Notices - Jan. 12, 2023

We would like to begin by acknowledging and thanking the First Peoples of the Hən̓q̓əmin̓əm̓ language groups on whose traditional and unceded territories we teach, learn and live.

The next cohort of the Youth Civic Engagement Program (YCEP) is beginning on Thursday, January 19, 2023. This free, eight-week registered education-to-action program aims to create opportunities for youth (15-20 years) to engage, develop skills and learn about local government. Youth will learn how City decisions are made, get the opportunity to co-design projects that spark interest and present back to a Mock Council. The program will run for seven consecutive Thursdays from 6:30pm-8:30pm, at Richmond City Hall, with the final session taking place on Wednesday March 8, 2023, from 6:30pm-8:30pm. If you are interested in joining this program, please see your counsellor as soon as possible.

If you are a grade 10 or 11 student looking for an opportunity to earn some volunteer hours, please listen carefully…. Here 4 Peers is an opportunity to join a group of peers in being trained to promote mental health within our greater school community.  Training will occur on the Pro-D Day Jan 27. There are only 10-15 seats so be sure to speak with a counsellor today about how you can be involved.  The program and training are provided by the Canadian Mental Health Association.  This is a great opportunity to learn more about mental health and become a leader in our school community in promoting mental health. Touchstone's Working in Social Services Group (WSS) is part of the United Way Future Leader's initiative, aimed at helping youth people gain access and opportunity to the skills, job experience and career networks needed for the future world of work. This WSS group will expose youth specifically to the Social Service field in a group setting. Training and volunteering will be a part of this experience. If you are interested in either of these opportunities to volunteer and receive training to increase your skills, please see your counsellor today.
