Graduation Numeracy Assessment (For Grade 10/11 Students) - April 13/14, 2021

A recording is of the student orientation for the Numeracy Assessment is now available by clicking here (Passcode: "css.6430").

The BC Graduation Program includes provincial assesments in the areas of Numeracy and Literacy. These assessments are prepared by the BC Ministry of Education and must be written by all students as a part of their graduation requirements. As these assessments are being phased in over time, the assessments required for graduation will vary slightly depending on students' current grade level. A breakdown of the assessments that are required for all students in grades 10-12 is included at the bottom of this post.

This year, graduation assessments will be written at Cambie Secondary School on the following dates:

  • Graduation Literacy Assessment 10 (GLA 10) for all grade 10 students (completed on January 25, 2021)
  • Graduation Numeracy Assessment 10 (GNA 10) for all grade 10 students on April 13, 2021
  • Graduation Numeracy Assessment 10 (GNA 10) for all grade 11 students on April 14, 2021

In order for our students to complete these important assessments, their school day will look different on January 25th and April 13th/14th. This schedule for these days is included below. Prior to each of these dates, students will have the opportunity to learn about the format of the assessments as well as strategies for understanding the information presented and answering the questions asked. Further details of this preparation are included below.

Here are some important things to know about these assessments:

  • The GLA 10 and GNA 10 are requirements for graduation.
  • Students are assessed on a four point proficiency scale: Emerging, Developing, Proficient and Extending
  • There is no “pass” or “fail” – students must write the assessments in order to meet the BC graduation requirements. Students will have a chance to rewrite these assessments on future dates to be determined by the Ministry of Education.
  • Assessment results are not blended with any subject as was the case with past provincial examinations. The results stand alone on the student’s transcript.

WHAT IS CAMBIE DOING TO PREPARE STUDENTS FOR THE GNA 10?

As the content of the assessment is drawn from multiple subject areas, our approach includes having different subject area teachers prepare students. The preparation is divided into two part:

  • Numeracy skills have been embedded throughout the curriculum in all subject areas on an ongoing basis.
  • On April 7th, 2021, Cambie Administration will offer a Zoom session to review the structure of the assessment. The presentation will include visual images of login screen, the assessment structures, reference pages, etc. Information will also be given in terms of strategies to prepare for the assessment. A copy of the PowerPoint used for this presentation will be added to this page following the presentation.
